Madagascar's economy is based on agriculture, which employs about 80% of the work-force.

Rice is the most important commodity. Other significant crops include cassava, sugar cane, coffee, cotton, cloves and vanilla.

Seafood, primarily prawns, is also an important source of export revenue.

With the continued development of Madagascar's national parks and protected areas given that an estimated two-thirds of Madagascar's visitors are attracted by the country's ecotourism offerings.
